There is a typical Spanish expression that goes: "Para gustos, colores" ("For tastes, colors"), and the truth is that the list of the 25 best actors and actresses of the 21st century, according to the prestigious New York Times, will generate conflict. Is Nicole Kidman better than Sharon Stone or Meryl Streep? In what sense are Keanu Reeves' interpretations much more luminous than those of Matthew McConaughey? 

Signed by the media's leading critics, Manohla Dargis and A.O. Scott, neither hide the subjectivity of their choices, and argue them by adding some films where the 25 best actors and actresses of the last 100 years — which is to say, few — have excelled. 

Among them is a Latino. It is Mexico's Gabriel García Bernal, and the critics highlighted his appearance in Amores Perros — a film that was a hit 20 years ago, and garnered widespread praise for its director, Alejandro González Iñárritu, and script by Guillermo Arriaga.

Bernal also had a notable role in Y tu mamá también, by Alfonso Cuarón, where he competes with a young Diego Luna for the love of a woman — Spanish actress Maribel Verdú — who accompanies them on a trip to a beach. 

Dargis and Scott mention other roles of the actor in Motorcycle Diaries, where he played Che Guevara, and La mala educación, by Almodóvar. 

Gael shared the list with notable actors and actresses, such as Joaquin Phoenix, Viola Davis, Melissa McCarthy, Sônia Braga, Isabelle Hupper, Julianne Moore and Denzel Washington.
