The well-known influencer JoJo Siwa , will dance alongside a female professional dancer in the new season of Dancing with the Stars, becoming the first same-sex pairing of contestants in the show's history, which returns in September.

The couple's participation in the competition was announced during a press conference on Thursday, Aug. 26 as part of the Television Critics Association press tour. The reality show is already in its 30th season, but it will be the first time that two women will dance together on the show.

Social media star Jojo Siwa said she is proud of the step taken by the show, and is sure that her participation will make Dancing With The Stars history.

The influencer said her participation "breaks a wall that has never been broken down before. It's normal for a girl to dance with a guy, and I think that's really cool, but it's really special that now I can not only share with the world that you can love who you love, but you can also dance with who you want to dance with."

Siwa, the young singer and social media influencer, came out in January, confirming being part of the LGBTQ+ community, and that she was in a relationship.

The other cast participants for this season will be announced on Sept. 8, and the new season premieres on Sept. 20.
