The biopic will be available on Netflix starting on Sept. 14.
Two series about Chente
El Rey is not the only television series about Vicente Fernández produced in 2022. However, it is the only one that has the approval of the Fernández family.
The other television production is The Last King: The Son of the People broadcast on Televisa.
The series is based on the book by the Argentine writer Olga Wornat, and stars Pablo Montero, Angélica Aragón, César Évora and Iliana Fox. The story told by The Last King: The Son of the People is rejected by the family of Chente, who accuses the television network of taking advantage of the singer's image for profit.
“It makes me sad that gentlemen who called themselves friends and shared bread at our table, have started a plan since October to steal Vicente's rights, when he could not defend himself because he was seriously ill in a hospital bed. I would like to see what they had tried to do when he was alive!” María Refugio Abarca de Ruiseñor, better known as Cuquita, the widow of Fernández said about the Televisa series.
