The film Champions tells the story of a basketball team that trains and competes in the Special Olympics under the guidance of a flawed but dedicated coach — Marcus (played by Woody Harrelson).

The production follows the experience of a former minor league basketball coach who, after a series of legal troubles, receives a court order to lead a team of players with intellectual disabilities. Despite his initial doubts, he will soon realize that he coaches a wonderful and talented team that can go further than they ever imagined.

The film stars Woody Harrelson, Ernie Hudson, Cheech Marin, Matt Cook, Kaitlin Olson, Madison Tevlin, Joshua Felder, Kevin Iannucci, Ashton Gunning, Matthew Von Der Ahe, James Day Keith, Alex Hintz, Casey Metcalfe, Bradley Edens, Alicia Johnston, Barbara Pollard, Alexandra Castillo, Aaron Hughes, Ryan DeLong, Mike Smith, Champ Pederson, Sean Cullen, Cory Wojcik, Stephanie Sy, Lauren Cochrane, Jacob Blair, Jean-Jacques Javier, and Joanne Rodriguez.

In the inspirational, emotional and realistic story, Richard Anthony 'Cheech' Marin also stands out.

The Latino comedian and writer was proud to have had the opportunity to work alongside renowned actor Woody Harrelson under the direction of Bobby Farrelly, although he admits he had his doubts about the production at first. However, the script and team quickly allayed his concerns.

"You have to trust your instincts, I did so and I have not stopped being positively surprised at all times with this film," he said in a press release.

The actor — who has been working hard in promoting a positive image of Latinos in the United States — encouraged artists to try new things, to do everything that comes their way without fear or limitations.

“You have to know how to work in any scenario to develop your talent and your experience, so the day they offer you something great you will be prepared. You shouldn't judge a book by its cover,” he added.

Champions hit U.S. theaters at the beginning of March. The film is a remake of the Spanish film Campeones, directed by Javier Fesser and released in 2018. Fesser's film topped the Spanish box office, and in 2019 won three Goya awards — the most prestigious awards in the Spanish film industry — in the categories: Best Movie, Best New Actor and Best Original Song.
