After Instagram censored the poster of the film Madres Paralelas and rectified itself for the mistake, director Pedro Almodóvar released the trailer of his latest work.

The Spanish filmmaker's latest production, Madres Paralelas, will open the Venice International FIlm Festival on Sept. 1 and will make its premiere in Spanish cinemas on the 10th of the same month.

The stars of this new film by Almodóvar are Penélope Cruz, Aitana Sánchez Gijón and Milena Smit, who tell a story about motherhood and family. Rossy de Palma and Julieta Serrano are part of the cast, along with Israel Elejalde as the male lead.

The story revolves around two women, Janis and Ana, who meet in a hospital room where they are about to give birth. Both are single and became pregnant by accident.

Janis, played by Penélope Cruz, has no regrets and in the hours leading up to the birth she is overjoyed; while Ana, played by Milena Smit, is a very frightened, regretful and traumatized teenager.

The synopsis of the film shows us that Janis tries to encourage Ana during the hours they share in the hospital, the few words that cross during that time create a very close and strong bond between the two, and fate will be responsible for developing and complicating in such a profound way that will change the lives of both.

According to Almodóvar himself, Madres Paralelas, is a return to the feminine universe, to motherhood and family.

The film was shot in Madrid between March and April 2021. It was produced by El Deseo, with the collaboration of RTVE and Netflix. In addition, its theatrical distribution will be in charge of Sony Pictures. It will also open the 78th edition of the Venice International Film Festival and will close the New York Festival.
