It was a dream return for Alejandro Sanz on Saturday, June 4. The Spanish musician did so with a glorious performance in Madrid, his hometown, in front of 55,000 fans who packed the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium. The start of the Sanz En Vivo Tour could not have started better for the singer, who has put out some essential Latin hits in recent decades.

Dressed in a white suit, Sanz appeared on stage 15 minutes late, but made up for his tardiness and then some. He started with classics like “No es lo mismo,” “Todo lo que fui,” and “Deja que te bese,” and euphoria spread among those present. His first message was dedicated to his hometown.

“I have been thinking for a long time what I was going to say, but now I have no idea. This is our night, tonight we are all Madrid, no matter where we come from. And if the world ends tomorrow, it doesn't matter, because today I'm in Madrid,” he said.

Sanz can boast of having a fanbase comparable to that of the Rolling Stones, who gathered 53,000 in the same venue a few nights before the Spanish icon. Some unconditional fans of the Spanish singer camped for a week to be in the front row and be as close as possible to their idol.

The connection between the musician and his followers was noticeable throughout the night. In 2020, when Sanz was on an American tour, the coronavirus pandemic broke out, and he had to suspend dozens of concerts scheduled during the Summer in Spanish stadiums. The wait was long, but it was worth it.

Alongside backup singer Karina, he performed “Looking for Paradise,” the hit he released in 2009 with Alicia Keys that became a global hit. Then songs like "Mi Marciana," " Cuando nadie me ve," "Amiga mía," and " Mi persona favorita" followed. The most anticipated moment was when he started “Corazón partío,” Sanz's top song of his career.

In total, there were around two hours of performance, where he performed close to 30 songs. However, some were cut and he only performed them in parts, as happened with "Amiga mía," causing some confusion.

In the same year he released his new album Sanz, which acts as an autobiographical review of his career, the artist accompanied the show with images of himself where he poses naked and shows the multiple tattoos that cover his skin. Of the numerous ink pieces, a portrait of his mother stands out close to the heart.

As usual, his performance was accompanied by a band with many members, who faithfully performed his greatest hits, such as "El alma al aire" and “Deja que te bese.”

“Mares de miel” was the first single off the new album, and “Ida” followed shortly after. Finally, he gave way to the encores, and appeared with an acoustic guitar to perform “Viviendo deprisa” and “Y ya te quiero,” another song from his most recent album played alone on the piano. If his tour maintains the intensity he showed in Madrid, these Sanz performances will be remembered for long time.
