The Caja Mágica de Madrid is preparing to once again host the Río Babel festival, one of the most awaited musical events in Spain. During June 30 and July 1 and 2, the country's capital will host great names in Hispanic music. At the top of the lineup are the Puerto Rican rapper Residente, the Madrid-born C. Tangana, the national pop legend Dani Martín, the Galician Tanxugueiras, the militants Molotov or the versatile Macaco.
But the last big confirmation came with the inclusion of Carolina Durante, one of the favorite names among national pop rock fans. They define themselves as the most important group of their generation. They proclaim it at a time when "urban and Latin began to take over the hit list and become a global soundtrack."
With her youth and an energetic staging, Carolina Durante intends to demonstrate in Río Babel that the stridency of electric guitars, rumbling basses and powerful drums are still useful as a perfect hit-generating machine. Their songs transport us to the rebellious years of “la movida madrieña” scene, but also to the punk of Comando 9 MM, Paralisis Permanente or even to the great Basque radical rock bands.
The attendants to the Río Babel will enjoy a comprehensive experience that goes beyond music. This is the first festival that includes a space entirely dedicated to humour, so people can take a break and laugh out loud between concerts. Stand out as headliners of the Babel Comedy Goyo Jiménez, Eva Soriano, Ignatius Farray, Carolina Iglesias, Eva Soriano, Inés Hernand or David Suárez.
In addition, the contest will have the Art Babel section, where works by the first digital art collective of Hispanic artists in Spain, Mintamintae, will be exhibited. It is made up of 16 creators from different disciplines, such as Zigor, Laprisamata, MiraRuido, Paloma Rincón and more, who came together to create transversal digital art, in which they share diverse cultural and creative traits.
Each artist has created an exclusive work for the occasion, and all of them are inspired by the water. They can be purchased using a QR code, in an auction that will be held online on the Nifty Gateway Digital Art Marketplace. In addition, attendees will receive a free NFT created specifically for the festival.
After the forced break in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, Río Babel wanted to bet on the diversity of creative artistic proposals, with which it intends to pay tribute to the city of Madrid. The open, plural and tolerant character of the Spanish capital, where innovative artistic experiments are born and developed, will be vindicated. The motto of this edition is “What is Madrid? Madrid is Rio Babel”.
