'Solo esta noche': Luz Casal and the Royal Philharmonic of Galicia join forces
The two-hour concert that features on the album was defined by the artist as “the shortest tour of my life.”
Spanish singer Luz Casal, recognized as one of the most popular voices of pop-rock in Spain in the 1980s, joined forces with the Royal Philharmonic of Galicia to release an unprecedented and solemn album. Called Solo esta noche, it is a production based on the concert that she performed in the Plaza del Obradoiro in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia in the Summer of 2021.
In front of the emblematic cathedral of the Galician city, known worldwide for being the final stop for pilgrims who travel on the Camino de Santiago, Casal displayed her talent and her powerful voice in an atmosphere still marked by the coronavirus pandemic. The two-hour concert featured on the album were defined by the artist as “the shortest tour of my life.”
The nearly 50 musicians who accompanied her, still wearing the masks that symbolized the pandemic, brought new sounds and dynamics to Casal's music. It was a combination of her usual band with the Royal Philharmonic of Galicia, which, under the direction of Paul Daniel, performed the singer's classics like “Entre mis memorias” and “No me importa nada.”
The album will be published in CD and DVD format on May 20, and will also be released on a double vinyl LP on June 17. Once again, the physical vinyl format is still valid and on the rise, and the majority of great artists are still committed to publishing careful vinyl editions of their works. For the first time, Casal will release her work on the Virgin Music record label.

The first song on the album is “Negra Sombra,” a poem by the writer Rosalía de Castro. It is a particularly symbolic song with lyrics in Galician, performed by an artist born in Boimorto, La Coruña, who wanted to highlight her roots and language.
Casal, who has 15 studio albums — the last was Que corre el aire (2018) — now has her first live album. Since the beginning of her musical career in 1982, the Spanish singer has sold more than 5 million copies of her records.
Fortunately for her fans, Solo esta noche, will be repeated again to celebrate the release of the album. Casal's next performance with the Royal Philharmonic of Galicia will be on June 20 at the Teatro Real in Madrid, in a performance that is part of the Universal Music Festival.
In addition, Virgin Music revealed it will also release a new album by the Spanish singer in 2023, with new songs composed during the coronavirus pandemic. Casal said the songs are not of sorrow or drama.
"I think it's the other way around: there are more songs that speak in the first person of aspects that I want to preserve, such as maintaining innocence or at least taking away the accumulated weight of these years, where it seemed that being innocent was being a fool," she explained.
