In the year of his final retirement from the stage, Joan Manuel Serrat continues to accumulate awards and recognition. A month before the start of his farewell tour 'El vicio de cantar,' the Spanish singer received the 2022 Odeón de Honor, awarded by Agedi, an entity in charge of managing the intellectual property rights of artists.

This happened just days after receiving the Gran Cruz del Orden Civil Alfonso X El Sabio, which was given by the President of Spain Pedro Sánchez for his "brilliant career and contribution to Spanish culture and art."

The decision of the Agedi collective was based on the “almost 60-year discographic career, with an endless accumulated success.” The jury highlighted that Serrat's songs, whether in Catalan or Spanish, are part of the collective memory of several generations. In addition, they pointed out his universality: “his success has crossed borders, being an artist as loved in his native Mediterranean as in the most distant lands of Latin America.”

'El noi del Poble Sec,' a singer considered also a prolific poet, is experiencing a year full of emotions. After learning that the tickets for his final concerts are practically sold out in Spain and America, he received the prestigious Odeon.

“It was necessary to pay tribute to his colossal and consistent career. His record production allows us to discover the wealth of his works that have given him innumerable gold and platinum records around the world,” said the jury.

Writing down all of his albums would mean creating an endless list. In total, he has more than 30 studio albums, six recorded live shows — together with great artists and friends such as Ana Belén, Víctor Manuel, Miguel Ríos or Joaquín Sabina — multiple compilations, and seven tribute albums recorded by other musicians.

Anthems such as “Mediterráneo,” “Paraules d’amor,” “Lucía," “Cantares,” “Para la libertad” and “La Saeta,” are already part of the musical heritage in Spanish.

The Odeón awards ceremony was held in an online event through Twitch, where prominent influencers and musicians presented the contest to attract new generations. The final verdict of the award was chosen by public vote. It was the third edition of this award, where the candidates to win it were chosen based on the sales and accumulated listening of the artists during the past season.

The winner Serrat accumulates "an anthology of masterpieces of our culture and music that will surely accompany him on his next international tour, which will delight all of his followers," the organization concluded.
