In honor of Valentine's Day and to their fans' delight, Buscabulla released a new single in the form of an Italian ode to love. The Puerto Rican band released its tender version of EVA, celebrating the beginning of the new lunar year.

The original song by Umberto Tozzi from 1982 was popularized three years later by Lissette Alvarez throughout Latin America, and it persists as a karaoke classic in Puerto Rico.

We've often written about Buscabulla, the band formed by Raquel and Luis Alfredo, and their ability to give new colors to Puerto Rican indie music. Their modern touches — such as autotune — allows them a certain post-apocalyptic aesthetic. Buscabulla's last single, Ta que Tiembla, confronted the perseverance against the pandemic catastrophe in an almost cyberpunk Puerto Rico scenario.

With EVA, they continue to delve into the many faces of the Latino identity in something as curious as the social musical appropriation and in formats given to intimacy, such as karaoke. The Puerto Rican duo now gives their fans a distorted theme with Latin sounds, bathing the same Italo harmony that ignites the gregariousness and memories.

Both artists explained the natural relationship with the song, taking advantage of the pandemic to revisit songs that speak of rebirth and new opportunities: "It struck a chord with us and we decided to give it our own twist, softening it without losing its powerful essence, and hopefully conveying that spirit of rebirth, optimism for the new year after such a calamitous moment in history. We thought it apt to put it out for this new lunar year and Valentine’s Day as a sincere ode to love and its ability to conquer all, even during end-times".

They also travel to retro-nostalgia, like many other artists, without losing the harmonies that make them so original, playing to find themselves between registers of tradition and modernity. It is also an attempt to celebrate lunar energy by trusting in the birth of new opportunities.

The band has been releasing singles, the fruit of their artistic dialogue with the pandemic, for some time now after they released Regresa in 2020. It is not the first mix either, since two months ago they released a remix of a Kali Uchis track.

According to Remezcla, they are currently working on their next album with collaborations with artists like rapper Jhay Cortez.
