The Puerto Rican's song was produced by MAG and La Paciencia, and starts with a sample of the bachata "No Te Puedo Olvidar" (1999), by Dominican Anthony Santos, and then transforms into a dembow rhythm that fuses Latin trap and electronic music.

Time magazine called the song "a gem", mentioning that in it "Bad Bunny exercises his malleable and magnificent voice in all its forms through deft fast verses and muddy chants; he even manages to make his gasps sound sexy. The song's aesthetic alone propelled it to complete cultural domination: it reached the top 10 in 13 countries."

Similarly, Time magazine rated the album "Un verano sin ti" as the best album of 2022, as "no other album had as much universal appeal this year as Un Verano Sin Ti, Bad Bunny's glorious fourth solo studio album," they mentioned.

This year's jurors explained that for the past four years a rule was applied in which the same artist was never included in the song and album category, but in the case of the Puerto Rican singer they made an exception to honor his great work in 2022.

To conclude, the magazine mentioned that "listening to Un verano sin ti, moving him and being moved by him, is an act of defiance, celebration and radical love".

Bad Bunny was the first non-English speaking singer to win the MTV VMA Award for Artist of the Year, in addition to leading the list of nominees for this year's Latin Grammys, receiving four awards.
