Pérez-Abraham says that playing the character has been challenging, and he thanks his mentor Freddie Joe Farnsworth for helping.

“I was working with him on a season of The Walking Dead and he taught me a lot about marines. Back then I was a Marine on that show, so I learned the tactics,” he said.

The Latino actor is first generation U.S.-born in his family, and said he felt very comfortable with the cast of the film. He also celebrated the cultural diversity among the actors.

“I wonder… What will my father think when he reads the credits at the end of the film? This is the first time that Gotham looks like Gotham, because Gotham is based on a city like those very big multicultural ones. So having that multiculturalism in the project makes the film very special and is going to inspire a lot of people especially these days,” he added.
