On June 7, dLocal, an Uruguayan cross-border payment platform that operates in Latin America, Africa, and Asia, has announced the appointment of their co-founder and billionaire Sergio Fogel to the position of Co-President and Chief Strategy Officer.

Since dLocal's founding in 2016, Fogel has been an active member of its Board of Directors, with his appointment serving as a formalization of the role he has been working in alongside the CEO and COO, Sebastián Kanovich (Co-President) and Jacobo Singer, respectively.

“Our opportunity to connect global merchants with emerging markets users is significant. I am excited to work even more closely with Sergio, making this role official as we work together to grow dLocal’s business,” said Kanovich, in a statement.

“His proven leadership skills, experience and commitment to our core values and culture have been, and will be, instrumental in continuing our growth,” he continued.

Fogel holds over 30 years of experience working in different positions, as an entrepreneur, an executive, and investor, including acting as an active angel investor for dLocal.

Alongside his service as Vice President of Endeavor Uruguay, he sits on the board of Impulso — a school that serves underprivileged children in Montevideo — and REDALCO, an NGO that seeks to sustainably reduce food insecurity.

He is also an Official Member of the Forbes Finance Council and recently has become the co-founder of Datanomik, a financial data processing platform.

Fogel has also worked as a professor at ORT Uruguay, teaching Digital Disruptions since 2008, co-founder of AstroPay LLP, and founded Punta Tech Meetup in 2009, an annual gathering of tech entrepreneurs, executives, and investors in Latin America.

“I am delighted to be assuming this executive role to continue supporting a dynamic, growth-focused leadership team as we guide dLocal’s business through the next phase of growth,” Fogel said.

“dLocal’s development since its founding showcases the dedication and exceptional efforts of our entire teams. I am confident the future is bright with us leading it forward,” he continued.

He earned his MBA from INSEAD, France, his Bachelor's in Computer Science Summa Cum Laude, and a Masters in Computer Science from Technion, Institute of Technology.
