The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced the confirmation of Michael B. Carroll as the next PennDOT Transportation Secretary.

He has held the position of Acting Transportation Secretary since the beginning of 2023 and was recently confirmed by the State Senate.

Carroll held a seat in the PA House of Representatives from 2007 to 2022. He has also served as Democratic Chairman of the House Transportation Committee from 2018 through 2022.

Through his term, Carroll’s work has focused on PennDOT's efficiency and customer service, focusing on directly improving Pennsylvanians' lives through useful services. Additionally, he has overseen PennDOT as it has enacted its construction projects totaling $869.5 million in value.

Governor Josh Shapiro nominated Carroll as Secretary, claiming that he would aid the state in becoming a national leader known for its manufacturing, innovation, and job creation.

This week, PennDOT has made over 20 driver licensing forms available online in order to expedite the application process, following an Executive Order signed by Governor Shapiro.

This established the Commonwealth Office of Digital Experience, which is dedicated to improving online services and for Pennsylvanians to access resources.

“I am honored to have this opportunity, and I’m proud of the team we have assembled to carry PennDOT’s important mission forward,” said Carroll, in a statement.

“Transportation is central to every aspect of our daily lives, and the PennDOT team is hard at work keeping people across the Commonwealth connected to opportunity and each other. I am honored to carry out Governor Shapiro’s vision to ensure PennDOT builds a better future for all Pennsylvanians,” he continued.
