Magic! The Gathering’s MagicCon comes to Philadelphia this weekend
Philadelphia locals that are fans of the card game Magic: The Gathering (MTG) will be pleased to know that Wizard of the Coast’s MagicCon convention is coming to the city, hosting several events from Friday to Sunday at the Philadelphia Convention Center this weekend, held in celebration of the game's 30th anniversary.
MagicCon will showcase multiple panels, each discussing a different facet of the game, ranging from the artwork used for the cards to prominent members of the community playing against each other in public games.
One such event, the Phyrexian Phylology in Phylly panel, will go in depth into the language used by the set's villains, the Phyrexians. To do this, linguists Bella Guo and Mary Kathryn Amiotte will discuss the symbolism and structure of the language, as moderated by MTG panel host Riley Knight.
Throughout card releases, the series has kept different storylines running throughout each box set released, with a first look at the finale of a decade-long story set to be released, titled March of the Machine.
Among the other attractions present at MagicCon, artists will set up booths to showcase their work, providing visuals for the storyline running through the card sets.
CONTENIDO RELACIONADO
The main event for artwork is the pop up art gallery, located at the Center for Architecture and Design in Philadelphia, featuring different art daily from the artists who have contributed to MTG.
The gallery will be available for all three days of MagicCon, and will be free for those with a MagicCon badge from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday through Sunday.
Featured around the event will be three immersive environments that attendees can enjoy and walk through at their own leisure.
Each of these will be designed around a thematic location chosen from MTG's areas, those being: Garruk's Grove in Eldraine, Chandra's Workshop in Kaladesh and Professor Onyx's Study in Stryxhaven.
In these environments, attendees can play against their favorite Planeswalker, with each deck designed to be the deck they would play. Participants will receive a Planeswalker card from that Planeswalker.
More information about the event can be found on the Wizards of the Coast website.
