Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District race ramps up with a new endorsement from Latino Victory for Shamaine Daniels on Friday, Sept. 30. 

Latino Victory’s support for Daniels came as a double endorsement with Vincente González, who’s running against Rep. Mayra Flores in Texas’ 34th Congressional district.

Daniels is the Venezuelan-American political dark horse who’s proven herself a contender against Republican incumbent Scott Perry, a U.S. Rep who’s occupied his congressional post since 2013.

Perry has continued to struggle in polls against Daniels, an immigration attorney, who’s held a narrow lead, amassing support from the whole of the political spectrum. 

Most surveyed distanced themselves from the Republican rep after information about his involvement in the events of January 6th insurrection surfaced, which, according to polls, made voters uncomfortable. Forty-seven percent of those sampled for the survey, many of whom are very likely to vote, expressed discomfort when news about Perry’s pardon scheme dominated the media cycle. 

Public Policy Polling’s findings align with a survey conducted by UnidosUS and Mi Familia Vota, where results showed any involvement in the January 6th seizures is an overwhelming deal breaker for Pennsylvania’s Latino constituency. 

“Shamaine Daniels’s historic race would strengthen the Latina bench in Congress and break a glass ceiling in Congress for Venezuelan-Americans,” said Latino Victory President and CEO Nathalie Rayes.

And indeed, Daniel’s position signals a new spur of Latina presence spread out among cameral chambers in the U.S., both for Democrats and Republicans. The Venezuelan-American contender’s race would make her the first Latina to assume a congressional role for Pennsylvania’s 10th district. 

She’ll need to vie for the support of a more conservative Pennsylvanian constituency that is not fully onboard with abortion, where she ranks last and will need to make up a difference to close the margin further.

Although the poll is a striking reflection of voter temperature, 63% answered without certainty whether they could support Daniels, given an unawareness of her campaign platform overall.

As it stands, Daniels rides the wave of anti-Trump sentiment, a significant deterrent for Perry’s campaign, though her time as a Harrisburg City Councilwoman is also a marker for her proven record as a compelling candidate. 

“She has a pulse on her community’s priority issues, including jobs, the economy, infrastructure, and education. Latino Victory is thrilled to support Shamaine Daniels for Congress and will work to ensure she makes history in November,” Rayes added. 

Just this week, Daniels and Perry tried their hand at a live debate, viewable through ABC27, where both candidates offered their platforms. Daniels severely lambasted Perry for his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential elections, a key talking point on both sides of the political aisle.

The subject was not heavily discussed in the debate, but if polling pulls through for Daniels, it may be the push required for voters to be swayed. 

"We need solutions, and in the time that Congressman Perry has been in office, his district has gotten worse economically, small farms are struggling, our urban areas are struggling," Daniels said, "and we need someone who can come in and help us address the challenges that we're facing that are too large for small municipalities to solve on their own."

Perry maintained his continued displeasure with the Biden administration and noted his seat doesn’t need a “Biden/Pelosi rubber stamp in Congress,” adding that his fighting status is enough for voters. 

The Trump-approved congressman is currently in the depths of an FBI probe into the contents of his phone.
