Christina Aguilera will be giving a special performance for her LGBT+ fans during her set at L.A Pride, which takes place Saturday, June 11 at Los Angeles’ State Historic Park.

The “Suéltame” singer has been an LGBTQ advocate for many years — raising awareness about HIV and AIDS.

In March 2019, the artist received an Equality Award from the national civil rights organization, Human Rights Campaign (HRC), for her fundraising efforts to increase HIV/AIDS research, and speaking out in support of marriage equality.

“Through her powerful music and her tireless efforts for positive change, she is making a real difference in the lives of countless people while bringing greater visibility to the LGBTQ community,” HRC said in a statement at the time.

The concert, which Aguilera is headlining, is part of the festival hosted by Christopher Street West Association, a nonprofit that hosted the first officially recognized Pride parade in June 1970.

To surprise and delight her LGBTQ+ fans, she will reunite with singer Mya for a performance of the 2001 song “Lady Marmalade,” which hit the top of the Billboard Charts on more than one occasion.

The song, which was originally released by Aguilera, Mya, Missy Elliot, Pink and Lil Kim, was featured on the soundtrack for the film Moulin Rouge!, which was an adaptation of a screenplay.

According to Variety, members of the national touring company of the Moulin Rouge! The musical will be joining Aguilera and Mya on stage during her hour-long set.

But this guest appearance isn’t the Ecuadorian-American singer’s only surprise for the Pride set. She will also be performing a new song that commemorates the victims of the 2016 Pulse Nightclub shooting.

“There’s nothing like performing for my LGBTQ+ fans. I feel safe with them to express myself however I want, whether it be through a huge ballad or something super sensual because they appreciate it all. I get to be as colorful and loud as I want to be. They’re my people,” the pop star said in an interview with PEOPLE.

Aguilera, who has an Ecuadorian father and a mother with German, Irish, Welsh ancestry, recently tapped back into her Latinx roots through releasing Spanish-language EPs and collaborating with Latins artists like Becky G and Nicki Nicole.

In 2000, she released an album in Spanish entitled Mi Reflejo, but up until recently, the singer only released Spanish-language songs on occasion.

While preparing for La Fuerza, her latest EP which released in January, Aguilera sat down with Latinx media sources to share the details of the project, the lessons learned, and the talented artists she worked with to make it happen.

“My mom was fluent in Spanish, that’s how she met and connected with my dad, who’s from Ecuador. I heard the language so much. I always say, when it’s in you, it never leaves you,” Aguilera told Billboard.
