Disobedience is the true foundation of liberty.

The obedient must be slaves.

Henry David Thoreau (1817 – 1862)

There’s no need to think way back in history to determine the moments when civil disobedience was the last resort: Revolutions, Movements, Peaceful Protests and Cultural Campaigns that have dismantled a whole government.

There was no corner left without commotion during 2016 with the spiritual will of a chief from an American Tribe who decided to face one of the biggest energetic corporations in America, defending his ideals and his principles.

The turnout? A spiritual and cultural mobilization; so vibrant, that seems to outshine most of its predecessors.

Many have questioned its results, many have even compared it to other and less popular movements like Black Lives Matter, but the secret of Standing Rock was the spiritual and pacific fiber that it managed to stimulate.

The survival of the ideals and the achievement of the American Tribes coalition was exactly that one: protect under the same consciousness so many and different social groups.

While it is true that all of it allows so many criteria – a protest of a minority in a capitalist country will always have more mediatized results than the same campaign in a “third world” country.

But this time, none of the chiefs or the protesters felt like their skin made any difference.

This was a unifying movement that, hand in hand, led by example for further battles.
