[Op-Ed] Creating Change 2025: A Space for Hope and Unity in Challenging Times
MORE IN THIS SECTION
The annual conference Creating Change 2025, organized by the National LGBTQ Task Force, took place at a pivotal moment for the LGBTQ+ community, just after the presidential inauguration, amid growing political and social uncertainty. In this challenging context, Creating Change stood out not only as an essential space for action and solidarity but also as a beacon of hope and unity.
This year, the event saw a significant increase in participation, with over 3,000 attendees, reflecting the urgency of the community to come together, share experiences, and plan strategies in the face of the challenges ahead. Throughout the more than 250 workshops and sessions, attendees were immersed in deep and enriching discussions on how to move forward, despite the political and social attacks faced by the LGBTQ+ community. One of the central themes was the analysis of recent executive orders issued by President Trump, which severely impact transgender rights and equity in the federal government.
The order recognizing only “two genders” and denying legal recognition of transgender identities, as well as the elimination of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, was a hot topic during the conference. We recognize that these decisions represent a significant setback, but the positive energy and determination of the participants were evident and demonstrated the power of the movement. Rather than being overcome by adversity, community members showed renewed strength, more profound commitment, and a sense of unity that transcends any divisions.
