Last week Iowa congressman Steven King, a Republican, introduced an amendment that would have blocked African-American hero Harriet Tubman from appearing on the $20 bill. The amendment failed, but it speaks volumes about the man who sponsored it.

A mini Donald Trump of sorts, King, like the presumptive GOP nominee, is a fear-monger and an insult specialist with nothing to offer the nation or the American people. Yet he keeps working very hard to make sure everybody knows his reputation as a shameless bigot is richly deserved.

Surely his Iowa constituents would be grateful if he worked half as hard for them in Washington.

But no, King, who has made every list of the least effective members of Congress since his election in 2003, has done nothing but utter hateful lies and promote the most extreme racist policies. "

This (replacing Andrew Jackson with Tubman) is liberal activism on the part of the president that's trying to identify people by categories, and he's divided us on the lines of groups," he told Politico.

"This is a divisive proposal on the part of the president, and mine's unifying. It says just don't change anything."

If racism were a virtue, Iowa congressman Steve King, would be a saint.

“For King, a congressman who has based his entire career on hate speech and xenophobic policies, to accuse President Obama of dividing the country is the definition of hypocrisy,” said the Iowa Democratic Party Chair, Andy McGuire.

You have to admire this guy’s gall. A bigoted white man shamefully trying to keep a black woman, a former slave and abolitionist hero from being given the recognition she deserves.

As it was to be expected King, who initially backed no less a weird character than Ted Cruz, now supports Donald Trump. The offensive New York showman, who could teach King a thing or two when it comes to racism and stupid political proposals, believes that replacing Jackson, a white man and slave owner with Tubman, a black woman and former slave, is “pure political correctness.”

King, despite being a terrible congressman, is often in the news usually for the worst of reasons. This is the guy who in 2013 stated that immigrants from Latin America, specifically those who would qualify for the Dream Act, have “calves the size of cantaloupes” from carrying heavy

loads of drugs across the border.

Such is King’s racism that, despite his pitiful mediocrity as a legislator, he occupies a place of honor among the extremists in Washington.

“We could also electrify the wire [on the border] with the kind of current that wouldn’t kill anyone but would simply discourage them [potential immigrants] if they played with it,” King said during a debate on control of the border between Mexico and the U.S.

“This is what we do with cattle all the time,” he added.

It’s only logical for this despicable man who dehumanizes immigrants by comparing them to cattle to support Trump, who has described immigrants as rapists and murderers, and thinks having Tubman on U.S. currency is “pure political correctness”.

Say what you will about King, but something is certain: This poor excuse for a legislator is an equal-opportunity racist who equally hates blacks, Mexicans and poor people.
