The risk of becoming the face of the policies of separation and deportation of immigrants in the United States is that the critics will harass you even at the same table where you intend to dine.

This was the case on Tuesday for Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen, who had to face protesters against the anti-immigrant measures just when she was about to enjoy a dinner… in a Mexican restaurant.

Some representatives of organizations like Metro DC Democratic Socialists of America and Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) confronted Nielsen with slogans such as "Shame!” "If kids don’t eat in peace, you don’t eat in peace!" and "End family separation!" among other vocal criticisms for her solid support for the" zero tolerance" policy of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

"How dare you spend the night here eating dinner as you’re complicit in the separation and deportation of over 10,000 children separated from their parents?" One of the protesters shouted. "How can you enjoy a Mexican dinner as you’re deporting and imprisoning tens of thousands of people who come here seeking asylum in the United States? We call on you to end to family separation and abolish ICE!"

According to the Washington Post, between 10 and 15 people entered the MXDC Cocina Mexicana - one of the most famous restaurants in Washington located near the White House - around 8 pm with banners and slogans against Nielsen, who had previously shared on Twitter President Trump’s comments congratulating her for her "fabulous work" when defending anti-immigrant measures on the border.

Nielsen press secretary Tyler Houlton gave statements about the "incident" by saying that "while having a work dinner tonight, the Secretary and her staff heard from a small group of protesters who share her concern with our current immigration laws that have created a crisis on our southern border," implying that both sides agreed on the matter.

Likewise, Houlton added that "the Secretary encourages all – including this group - who want to see an immigration system that works, that contributes to our economy, that protects our security, and that reflects our values to reach out to Members of Congress and seek their support for close the terrible immigration loopholes that have made our system a mess. "

Apparently, the response of Nielsen and her team has been to condescend before the public knowledge of the reality that the immigrant community faces in the United States, pretending to be able to confuse and deceive as to their true intentions.
