No need to say that President Donald Trump and his Barack Obama don't have much in common, nor personally, nor politically. Among the personal ones, it should be noticed that after the 100 days of the beginning of his mandate, Obama had already made three trips abroad and visited nine countries, while Trump, loyal to his "America First" didn't look liking willing to take a plane.

Finally, the day has arrives. Donald Trump is traveling abroad. The US president starts a week of diplomacy and preparation before he takes the Air Force One on Friday to fly to Saudi Arabia, first stop of his first trip abroad.

Breaking the presidential tradition of paying first a visit to neighbors, Canada and Mexico, Trump will fly first to Saudi Arabia, and will continue to Israel and Italy, the three centers of the three great monotheistic religions: Islam, Judaism and Christianity.

“This trip is truly historic. No president has ever visited the homelands and holy sites of the Jewish, Christian, and Muslims faiths all on one trip,” national security adviser HR McMaster said on Friday at the White House. “And what President Trump is seeking is to unite peoples of all faiths around a common vision of peace, progress, and prosperity.

According to The Guardian, Trump's first trip abroad reflects the White House's efforts to "recast Trump as a world statesman at a time when the legitimacy of his election victory is under greater attack than ever following his dismissal of the FBI director, James Comey over his links to Russia".

McMaster insisted that the goal of the trip was "first, reaffirm the global leadership of the United States. Second, continue to build key relationships with world leaders. And third, to offer America's message of unity with friends. "

The journey will end in Taormina (Sicily), at the G-7 meeting, and will also take him to Brussels for the NATO summit.

In Israel, Trump will try to meet with Prime Minister Beniamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas (McMaster said it is not confirmed), while in the NATO summit Trump has to prove to international community that the US is a reliable military defense and trade ally.

In Saudi Arabia, a country under watch after the heavy civilian death toll caused by the Saudi-led aerial bombing campaign in Yemen, have also been sidelined, reported The Guardian. Last week,  Reuters reported that the US is  close to completing arms deals with the kingdom worth more than $100bn.
