“We need to encourage young people to take advantage of every opportunity available to them, particularly formal education. My life has been about preparation and perseverance."
“Receiving an award is a humbling experience. While most of us do what we do because it is right and not to be acknowledged, it is gratifying to know others believe we are making a positive difference. That is something I am committed to doing as requested by my hero Roberto Clemente when he said, ‘Any time you have the opportunity to make a difference in this world and you do not, you are wasting your time on earth,’" Cortes stated.

“An inclusive agenda that promotes access and participation for all groups is crucial to any diverse society. The United States is no exception. Yet, the issues that are most important to the Latino community - education, health and economic development - are common across all populations. Building language access and cultural competence into strategic plans do go a long way to promote inclusiveness,” says Cortes.
Whether serving non-profits or on the Governor's advisory board, Cortes focuses on serving his communities in a dynamic fashion and encouraging youth to excel.
