The Philadelphia More Beautiful Committee (PMBC) is making a last call to sign up for its volunteer clean block program on July 18th in the 6th, 9th, 22nd, and 26th police districts.
It’s as simple as this: Block captains and community leaders in those districts need to get in touch with their PMBC Clean Block Officer at least three weeks in advance to schedule. You can find yours on the Philadelphia Streets Department website, or just check them out here.
Dina Rivera 6th and 9th Police District 215-685-3980
Yvonne Garner 22nd Police District 215-685-3975
Sandra Miranda 26th Police District 215-685-3985
Don’t know your own personal Block Captain? Don’t have one? Call PMBC at (215) 685-3981 to take action. Their mission is to help you organize your community, and what better way to start than joining your neighbors with some shovels, contractor bags, and a little elbow grease?
As a part of the Saturday Clean-Up program, the Street Department will be offering trash pickup services to registered block cleanups. Friendly reminders from the cleanup organizers: Put bags of debris in one place at the end of the block to make it easier on the collectors. Don’t sweep anything into inlets or stormwater drains. And don’t use this as your own personal trash pickup day. (Duh.)
So far, the program has seen over 3,314 volunteers fill over 4,779 bags of debris throughout some 594 blocks in the city. Get out there and do your part!
