The Delaware River Waterfront is at it again this summer by offering two summer hotspots.
After the success of the new Spruce Street Harbor Park last summer and Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest this past winter, the Delaware River Waterfront Corp., has decided to expand the summertime installations.
Spruce Street Harbor Park, the pop-up park in Penn’s Landing, will return on May 22 and run through the end of September. The Garces Group will be returning this year, with the addition of other local restaurateurs (No word yet on who).
The park, which included a floating restaurant, a beer garden, hammocks, colorful LED lights and more, drew half a million visitors last summer.
It will remain free and open seven days a week thanks to Univest Corporation and Valley Green Bank.
Opening the same day is the brand new Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest, which will debut Philly’s first outdoor roller skating rink.
The skating rink will be a ticketed activity (same as the ice skating in the winter), and will offer roller and inline skates as well as a hockey-grade flooring system. Tickets can be purchased in advance online or on-site. Similarly to the ice skating, all Independence Blue Cross cardholders will receive free admission for skating.
The Summerfest will turn the Blue Cross RiverRink WinterFest lodge into a boathouse-themed restaurant and will serve the Garces Group and other local restaurateurs.
The two waterfront attractions will feature increased signage and more bike parking. Indego, the city’s new bike share program also has plans to install a bike station near Spruce Street Harbor Park at Foglietta Plaza.
