The African American Museum of Philadelphia celebrated their 40th anniversary with a huge gala held in Center City this past weekend. The AAMP honored PECO for being an outstanding corporate leader in the city as well as honoring Media Pioneeers and Philanthropists Cathy Hughes and Alfred C. Liggins, III of Radio One. The mother and son team started from humble beginnings with WHUR-FM at Howard University in Washington, DC to now 53 stations in 16 markets.
Radio One, Inc. became the largest and still is the only African-American owned urban radio multimedia platform in the country. Both Hughes and Liggins have generously supported cultural organizations and historically African-American colleges across the United States. AL DIA News congratulates the African American Museum in Philadelphia on their 40 years as well as Cathy Hughes and Alfred C. Liggins, III, and PECO for all their contributions to the city and community.
