A student-organized gathering to develop an interdisciplinary network of scholars working in the growing field of Andean Studies, will host a series of roundtable discussions and topics that explore the intersections of indigenous languages of the Andes.
Thinking Andean Studies: An Interdisciplinary Colloquium will take place on Apr. 17 and 18 at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), with a wide range of panels and activities that includes a discussion on “Violence, indigeneity and Representation” and “Building-up discourses in the Andes.”
The 2015 Colloquium is hosted by Quechua Penn, an initiative with the mission to promote Quechua language and Andean culture at Penn University.
The opening reception will be on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. with a live performance by INKARAYKU (Quechua word that means “because of the Incas”), a Brooklyn-based Andean folk band.
