The seventh annual Puerto Rican flag raising ceremony, hosted by Councilwoman María Quiñones-Sánchez, took place on Sept. 22 at Philadelphia’s City Hall.

Attendees sang the U.S. and Puerto Rican national anthems while the members of 65th Infantry Regiment, the Borinqueneers, raised the flag. The ceremony was followed by a free luncheon in the new Dilworth Park, outside of City Hall.

Joanna Otero-Cruz, executive director of Concilio, discussed the upcoming annual Puerto Rican Day Parade and post parade events. The parade will take place on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 12 P.M. on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Afterwards, spectators can continue the celebration by attending the Boricua Fest, hosted by Councilwoman María Quiñones-Sánchez, and the Coqui Fest, hosted by Representative Angel Cruz. The Boricua Fest will take place at Fairhill Park and will feature local DJs and performances by Oro Solido and Brenda K. Starr. The Coqui Fest, at the Lighthouse Field, will feature performances by Tito Nieves and Patrulla 15. Both festivals start at 3 P.M.
