Pro bono Christian legal clinic opens in Kensington
Their goal is to provide pro-bono legal and spiritual consultation to low-income clients.
After years of volunteering with neighborhood residents, Christian Legal Clinics of Philadelphia (CLCP) has opened up their seventh location in Kensington at the Bethel Temple Community Church.
CLCP's mission is to provide legal and spiritual services to low-income clients. They work with existing neighborhood organizations, particularly churches, as part of their outreach effort.
Clinic clients receive a free one-hour consultation with one of CLCP's licensed volunteer attorneys. Legal advice often overlaps with spiritual counseling as well. Attorneys will sometimes offer to pray with the client and address non-legal concerns that may be "at the root of the legal problems." Volunteers will also coordinate referrals to qualified counsel through a large network of attorneys who take on pro bono or reduced-fee cases.
The organization will be holding its first monthly clinic on Saturday, July 18th. As part of the opening kick-off, it will also be having a special expungement clinic on Saturday, June 27th, from 9 a.m. to noon.
The new CLCP location needs more volunteer attorneys. If you're a lawyer looking to do some pro bono work, email Jaimee Moore at jmoore@clcphila.org.
