The pope mural could break a record
The 4,239-foot mural created in honor of Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia could break a record in the next hours/day: the highest number of people who have…
The World Meeting of Families (WMOF) and the Mural Arts Program chose Mexican artist César Viveros to create a mural which celebrates the historic visit of Pope Francis to Philadelphia. For that reason they decided to involve the community in its creation through different painting sessions opened to public.
Since June around 2,500 people have participated in the painting sessions — on the mural sections — that have now been transferred to the Philadelphia Convention Center during the celebration of the WMOF.
In less than two days almost 2,000 people have collaborated on painting the last part of the mural, located at the Grand Hall of the Philadelphia Convention Center. Now they are close to breaking a record: the greatest number of people who have painted a mural in the same place, which is 2,263 people. It is expected that the record will be broken tomorrow.
The mural ¨The Sacred Now: Faith and Family in the 21st Century¨ will be installed at St. Malachy School (1419 N 11th St.).
