Saint-Gobain, one of the world’s largest building materials companies, is commemorating its 350th anniversary with a unique global exhibition called “Future Sensations,” and one of its stops is right here in the City of Brotherly Love.
The “Future Sensations” exhibition is a free, immersive digital experience with five walk-through pavilions that let visitors experience science, technology, storytelling and art.
In Philadelphia, the exhibit is located at Eakins Oval on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway as part of the 2015 kickoff to the Oval season. The touring exhibition is making four stops across the world, including Shanghai, China; São Paulo, Brazil; Paris, France; and Philadelphia, which is the only tour stop in North America and is home of Saint-Gobain’s domestic headquarters.
“Philadelphia is honored to serve as the flagship city in North America to help Saint-Gobain commemorate its historic milestone and the 15 generations of innovators responsible for the anniversary,” Mayor Michael A. Nutter, said in a statement. “There is no mistaking the architectural influence Paris has had on Philadelphia, and now our City has the distinct privilege of hosting the ‘Future Sensations’ exhibition on Benjamin Franklin Parkway, which was modeled on Paris’ own Avenue des Champs-Élysées.”

The four of the five pavilions: Look, Listen, Color, and Create can be seen in Shanghai, São Paulo and Paris. These pavilions create different experiences during the day, at night and once the visitors enter the pavilion. The different pavilions showcase various things such as mirrors, LED lights, acoustic performances, a free standing carousel, architecture, and more.
The Discover pavilion was designed specifically for Philadelphia and its technological developments made in North America.
In addition to the installation, a pop-up beer garden and food trucks will be available.
Throughout the week, about six to 10 food trucks, such as The Cow and the Curd, Little Baby’s Ice Cream, and Vernalicious, will be present each day. The Oval’s beer garden will offer special brews from Yards Brewing Company made in honor Saint-Gobain and France (where the company is from), like Louey Loves Pale Ale and Saint-Gobain Saison, as well as other craft beers.
The “Future Sensations” exhibition is open in Philly until June 6.
