A week after the grand jury's decision to not indict Darren Wilson, the Ferguson police officer who fatally shot Michael Brown, history repeated itself. This time with Eric Garner.
Yesterday, the grand jury in NYC decided not to indict Daniel Pantaleo, an officer who put unarmed Eric Garner into an illegal chokehold, resulting in his death. The decision was made despite video footage showing the incident.
After the latest decision was announced, hundreds of protesters marched throughout Center City Philadelphia calling for justice in both decisions. Chants of “I can’t breathe” and “black lives matter” could be heard from protesters who disrupted rush hour traffic and the annual holiday tree-lighting ceremony at City Hall.
