On the steps of City Hall locals gathered to stand up for a change from Washington on current climate policies.

According to Philly.com, roughly 2,000 people rallied for a change in approach to efforts to combat global warming.

A part of a national day of action to speak out against President Donald Trump's policies on climate change, the local march went from the steps of City Hall toward JFK Boulevard in Center City, and ended at 30th station.

Building on previous protests in support of Standing Rock and denouncing the Dakota Access Pipeline, the "Philly With Standing Rock" rally focused on the Trump administration's support of the planned pipeline as well as the oil and gas industry.

The event organizer Jed Laucharoen told Philly.com “Basically, the point is for a lot of people to get together in this space and show resistance to the current administration’s offensive moves on the environment and poor communities,” said Laucharoen. "They are the most affected by these policies.”

The protest build off of a larger and lon battle that renewed when Trump signed executive orders in January advancing construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline, a 1,179-mile project intended to bring tar-sands oil from Alberta south into the United States, and the Dakota Access Pipeline, a 1,172-mile project for transporting Dakota shale oil south.

The protest was shortly after a march on Washington for the same cause.
