Are you buried in all of fall's leaves? The Philly government wants to help unearth you with a leaf collection program.
Are you buried in all of fall's leaves? The Philly government wants to help unearth you.
The city is resuming their leaf collection program that ended in 2008, but with changes.
Starting Monday, Nov. 10, the Philadelphia Streets Department will offer a leaf collection and recycling program to residents looking to get rid of their fall foliage. Residents can drop-off their biodegradable bagged leaves at one of the 22 designated locations on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (except for the Saturdays following Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving).
Residents are asked to not mix trash into the bagged leaves for drop-off. They will not be accepted because they will not be able to recycle the trash.
Bagged leaves will not be collected curbside as part of the program. They will be considered trash, not recycling.
The program will also include mechanical leaf collection in areas that are determined as having heavy accumulations of leaves. Residents in these areas are asked to rake leaves into the curb’s edge for collection by 7 a.m. Monday each week to be collected by leaf loaders.
The program runs through Friday, Dec. 19.
