Philly: The first choice for most New Yorkers
27,000 new residents from New York City move to Philadelphia every year.
Already recognized as an urban outdoor oasis by The New York Times, and ranking third among the “52 places to go in 2015,” it turns out Philly is the number one city New Yorkers move to.
The Washington Post published the migration patterns of the 10 largest metropolitan areas in the United States during the five-year period from 2009 to 2013. The information is based on new five-year American Community Survey data from the Census Bureau.
“It looks like a lot of people are leaving New York — more, in fact, than move there from these other cities. New Yorkers — another 27,000 of them — also flock to Philadelphia each year,” the publication reported.
Likewise, Philadelphians also move in good number to New York, around 19,000 of us per year.
