The Philadelphia Police Highway Patrol Motorcycle Drill Team closed down 1800 block of Market Street on September 12 to perform stunts for the crowd during a kick-off event for 60th Annual Hero Thrill Show. Spectators were also entertained by the Phillie Phanatic and the Sixers Dance Team.
Established in 1954 after 10 firefighters were killed in an explosion, the mission is to raise funds for the college education of survivors of fallen police and firefighters who were killed in the line of duty.
After a recent decline in attendance, the Hero Thrill Show now averages 25,000 people and has raised more than $360,000 in scholarships.
The 60th Annual Hero Thrill Show will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the Wells Fargo Center. Tickets can be purchased at local police stations, firehouses or online.
