Philadelphians expected to pay a little more for Thanksgiving dinner
While Philadelphians can expect to pay a little more this year, they will pay about $3.50 less than the national average.
Plan to pay even more as you prepare to do your grocery shopping for Thanksgiving this year. According to the latest report by the City Controller's Office, a traditional Philadelphia holiday meal for 10 will cost $46.60, a slight increase of $0.18 over last year.
However while Philadelphians can expect to pay a little more, they will still pay about $3.50 less than the national average. According to the American Farm Bureau Federation’s (AFBF) annual information price survey, the a typical Thanksgiving Day meal in the U.S. costs $50.11.
The report stated that contributing to the overall price change this year includes the cost of a 16-pound turkey at $20.64. This is $1.20 more than last year’s price tag. There are also increases in dairy products such as milk and whipping cream, combining for a total of $0.53 more than last year.
The cost analysis was conducted by averaging the retail prices of food items for a traditional holiday meal from various grocery stores within Philadelphia.
