Just a few days after Philadelphia’s anti-bullying campaign “Champions of Change” had their end-of-the-school-year celebration, a parent from Olney Charter School shared a video on Facebook that showed her daughter being beaten up by another student.
Tammy Montas called upon the school staff, community leaders and local officials for support and to take action against the violent incident.
“I asked friends and colleagues to share this video and help me in one way or another to stop this situation. As you can see in this video, my daughter was bullied and physically assaulted,” Montas wrote on her post. “It was not a fight! My daughter refused to fight and still the student attacked her.”
Montas also stated that the day of the incident, students were released earlier than usual from school but “no one notified me about it.” She also highlighted the fact that mobile phones are prohibited on school grounds, but students were still able to capture the incident on their phones.
“I want to hear from community members and political leaders who have always expressed a concern for the welfare of students and youth,” Montas said.
