Residents will have access to a new interactive website that allows users to search properties by address and view the estimated property tax under Mayor Nutter's proposed increase and how these additional dollars will be used by local schools.
Mayor Michael Nutter launched the website SchoolFunding.phila.gov, a page that will also make available additional information about the School District of Philadelphia's proposed FY16 budget and alternative funding proposals.
The mayor said this informative website lets property owners see how local schools plan to put that new funding to good use, like hiring back teachers and support staff or purchasing much needed supplies and equipment. “I want to encourage every Philadelphian to log on and see how the proposed tax increase will affect them and how the district proposes to use those funds," Nutter said.
Mayor Nutter's proposal to boost investment in Philadelphia schools would cost a homeowner $104 per year, or less than 30 cents a day. According to the mayor’s office, $104 per year equals less than the cost of a pizza per month, 4 soft pretzels a week or a cheesesteak once a month.
"We have an obligation to provide Philadelphia's children with a high-quality education that prepares them for college and career. Our kids deserve a fair chance at a successful future, but they won't get it with insufficient school funding. That's why I proposed an increased investment in education of $105 million in annual, recurring funding," said Mayor Nutter.
To use the website log on to SchoolFunding.phila.gov and enter an address.
