Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter was appointed Monday by President Barack Obama to the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance (MBK Alliance) Advisory Council during a ceremony in New York City.
The alliance’s objective is to engage corporations and businesses in In the MBK Initiative, established by Obama in 2014 to eliminate the gaps in opportunity and achievement for boys and young men of color.
“I am honored to be selected by President Obama to serve on the Advisory Council for this important new foundation,” said Nutter. “I am committed to the mission of the MBK Alliance and have been focused on issues like education, job skills training and violence-reduction among boys and young men of color for many years through my work with Cities United and other organizations. I look forward to collaborating with my fellow Advisory Council members and the MBK Alliance Board and Leadership Team to advance the President’s agenda of ensuring that everyone can achieve the American dream.”
Last week, Mayor Nutter welcomed to Philadelphia 13 U.S. mayors and more than 300 city leaders to the 2nd annual Convening of Cities United. Improving the relationship with communities of color and law enforcement was the topic of a panel discussion and press conference as part of the convening.
