The World Meeting of Families (WMOF) and the Mural Arts Program hosted the first of a series of community “Paint Days” with students from St. Malachy and St. Veronica Schools, who participated in painting a panel of the newly announced mural to commemorate the visit of Pope Francis to Philadelphia.
The collaborative technique, which involves painting each mural panel individually, was designed to engage the community in the creation of the historic work of art titled The Sacred Now: Faith and Family in the 21st Century. Anne McGoldrick, president of Independence Mission Schools, Dr. Mary Elizabeth Muir, chief academic officer of Independence Mission Schools, and the mural’s leading artist Cesar Viveros attended the kick-off series of “Paint Days.”
The final mural will consist of 153 individual panels measuring 5-feet by 5-feet in size and encompassing 4,239 square feet across three sections of St. Malachy’s future home.
