JUNTOS and FINANTA will host workshops for Latino immigrants
Nonprofit groups will host workshops on how to properly buy a house on June 13th and 14th.
With all the gentrification going on in Philadelphia, housing has become a major concern for undocumented immigrants, according to community organizer Yared Portillo.
That’s why community-led organization JUNTOS will host a workshop on how to properly purchase a house on June 13th at 10 a.m. and on the 14th at 12 p.m..
The informational session is part of a series of workshops to help undocumented immigrants settle in Philadelphia. Just last month, the South Philly-based organization held a workshop on how to establish credit.
JUNTOS is looking to create more workshops for Latinos immigrants.
"We have a committee meeting every Monday, where the neighborhood gathers to talk about community issues,” said Portillo. “The people would like to know more about their landlord tenant rights to make sure their landlord doesn’t [take advantage of them]. ”
The workshops will be held at the offices of JUNTOS, located at 1537 S 6th Street (corner of 6th and Tasker). They will be conducted in Spanish by FINANTA, a nonprofit group that promotes the growth and economic expansion of diverse Philadelphia communities.
