Gay couple beaten in Philadelphia
A Philadelphia couple's night out turned into a nightmare when they were stopped by an intoxicated group and beaten in what could be a hate crime.
A couple was walking near Rittenhouse Square on Thursday night after enjoying a dinner out, but were stopped by what witnesses said were an intoxicated group of two men and six women. Someone in the group asked if the 27 and 28-year-old men were a couple. When one of the victims replied, “yes,” the group attacked.
Both victims ended up in the hospital, according to NBC10, and one underwent surgery for a facial bone fracture.
While police had not confirmed whether the attack was a hate crime of theft (one of the victim’s bags was also stolen), witnesses told NBC10 that they heard the group shouting slurs as they kicked and hit the men. None of the suspects have been identified yet.
A friend of the couple told NBC10 that they have been together for 10 years.
