More than 1,000 marchers participated in the 52nd Puerto Rican Day Parade in Philadelphia. Celebrants gathered at the Benjamin Franklin Parkway on Sunday, Sept. 28 to honor Puerto Rican heritage and traditions.

Organized by Concilio, the parade celebrated culture and heritage through the theme “El Jíbaro Puertorriqueño: Root of Our Identity.” El Jíbaro is a mountain dwelling farmer and laborer. This theme was chosen to represent traditional values and pride Puerto Ricans have for community, family and their homeland.

Afterwards, spectators continued to show their pride by attending the Boricua Fest, hosted by Councilwoman María Quiñones-Sánchez, and the Coqui Fest, hosted by Representative Angel Cruz. The Boricua Fest took place at Fairhill Park and featured community DJs and activities for children. The Coqui Fest, at the Lighthouse Field, featured special guests Charlie Cruz and Hector Trecoche.
