Two neighborhood development organizations will be hosting a health-oriented community day in Kensington this Saturday, Sept. 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The North Kensington Community Development Corporation (NKCDC) and Somerset Neighbors for Better Living (SNBL) want to bring residents together for the usual community festivities, but also to talk about gaining access to healthier resources.

So in addition to ample food and two musical acts, Kensington neighbors are invited to partake in health screenings, a "healthy home" workshop and even a boxing demonstration. NKCDC added that they will offer help applying for public health benefits. Residents can also sign up to receive a free sidewalk planter, should they wish to spruce up their block.

An ongoing community mural project will begin beneath the overpass at Frankford and Lehigh Avenues throughout the morning and afternoon.

Here are the highlights with estimated times:

 12 p.m. Two concerts on Frankford Avenue.
 1 p.m.: “How to make your home healthier” workshop from Philadelphia Department of Public Health
 12-2 p.m.: Light display and mural painting on Frankford Avenue for the young and young-at-heart! Come paint your shadow and learn about plans to improve lighting at the Frankford Avenue underpass.
