American Airlines (AA), the world's largest airline, on Tuesday temporarily suspended all flights within the United States due to a "technical problem," airline regulators and the company itself said, at the height of the holiday travel peak.

The situation has been overcome and at this time normal schedules have been resumed.

American Airlines is reporting a technical problem and has requested that aircraft nationwide be grounded," the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement in a release. The airline said it is experiencing "a technical issue with all AA flights".

As reported by The New York Times, the airline informed its passengers of the "technical problems" through social networks. Travelers have begun to be affected and the airline reported that it was working to rectify the situation. "Our team is currently working to fix it," American Airlines said in X, according to the New Yorker. "No estimated timeline has been provided, but they are trying to fix it in as short a time as possible."
