August 18th, 2023On May 11, Elon Musk announced in a tweet that he had found a new CEO for Twitter. The next day he followed it up with one that said, “I am excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter!”
He added that she “will focus primarily on business operations, while I focus on product design & new technology. Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app.”
Musk became the CEO of Twitter at the end of October 2022. Since he took over, Musk has made several major changes to the company including mass layoffs, replacing the verification program with a subscription service, and reinstating suspended users.
Musk’s announcement comes around five months after he posted a Twitter poll asking if he should resign and promising to if the majority of votes said yes. The final results of the poll were 57.5% for yes.
Yaccarino was most recently the ad chief at NBC Universal, which she first joined in 2011. A press release from the company, also released today, stated that she was leaving the company effective immediately.
