Dr. Luis Alberto Diaz Jr. is the newest member of the Quest Diagnostics board of directors. 

The US-born physician and scientist with Peruvian roots, who is currently Chief of the Solid Tumor Oncology Division at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), has been conducting clinical trials to find a cure for colon cancer since 2017.

Díaz Jr., who is also a member of the White House National Cancer Advisory Board, and a member of the board of directors of the American Association for Cancer Research, will seek to bring all his research skills to the board of Quest Diagnostics, a company that works to provide more complete information about patients to health care companies, as well as better health services for users.

Díaz Jr.’s Career 

Son of Peruvian dermatologist Luis Alberto Díaz, who inspired him to become an oncologist, Díaz graduated from the University of Michigan and did his internship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Thanks to the studies that he has been carrying out for six years in search of a cure for colon cancer, Díaz and his colleague, Andrea Cercek, managed to ‘cure’ at least 12 patients through immunotherapy, results that were published in The New England Journal of Medicine.

The results of Díaz Jr.'s research present high possibilities of finding a cure, not only for colon cancer, but also for other variants, such as stomach, pancreas, prostate, uterus, and breast cancers that present a genetic mutation similar to the one analyzed.
