Miriam Hernandez-Kakol was recently appointed as the newest board member for Hovnanian Enterprises, Inc. 

The addition of Hernandez-Kakol now brings the leading national homebuilder organization’s Board of Directors to eight members, six of whom are independent directors. 

Hernandez-Kakol is a transformational global business leader who has built and scaled numerous businesses to success while solving critical challenges across diverse industries. Her experience spans over 20 years, architecting data-driven, technology-enabled programs at leading Fortune 100 companies.

Ana K. Hovnanian, board chair, president and CEO of Hovnanian Enterprises, noted how thrilled she is to add Hernandez-Kakol onto its board.  

“Her extensive strategic advisory expertise and considerable experience in driving growth initiatives and programs across business platforms, while enhancing profitability will help guide us as we execute on our growth plans, including our goal to increase our profitability,” said Hovnanian in a statement. “Miriam’s accumulation of business experiences will be invaluable as our Board of Directors assists us in positioning ourselves for long-term success.”

Hernandez-Kakol is a former executive at KPMG. Starting her tenure there in 2010, she worked in a number of different roles. Most recent role, she was global head of management and consulting practice for two years before retiring in 2021. 

In her role, she was responsible for the largest and fastest growing business within KPMG’s advisory portfolio, which included guiding the strategy of its 20,000-plus member consulting team and continuing the business’ double-digit growth trajectory. 

Prior to that, she was senior vice president at BearingPoint (formerly KPMG Consulting), where she helped lead multiple practices while producing significant revenue growth and segment profitability. 

She began her professional career with Pacific Telephone and then Telcordia Technologies, where she developed her business gaining expertise in networks, technology and call centers. 

Hernandez-Kakol is a graduate of UCLA, and also finished an executive program at The Wharton School before earning a graduate level program certification from Carnegie Mellon University. 

Hovnanian Enterprises is not the first board that Hernandez-Kakol has been appointed to. In addition to her newly appointed board position, she also serves as an executive board member of the the Hispanic Technology Executive Council, is the co-chair of the National Academy Foundation STEM Committee and as a board member of Junior Achievement New Jersey.  

Hernandez-Kakol has established herself as one of the most prominent Latina leaders in the nation throughout her extensive career, accentuated by her inclusion onto both ALPFA’s and Fortune 50’s most powerful Latinas lists.
