Temple University Hospital is being honored with a 2021 Leapfrog Top Hospital Award for Outstanding Quality and Safety.

Each year, Leapfrog releases a national hospital survey, which assesses hospital quality and patient safety performance.

“It takes leadership, teamwork and absolute dedication to patients, to achieve this award,” said Leah Binder, president & CEO of The Leapfrog Group.

To qualify, hospitals must rank near the top among its peers in quality of patient care across various areas of performance, including survey, maternity care, infection rates and prevention of medical errors.

Temple University Hospital was one of 149 hospitals and 72 teaching hospitals selected out of over 2,200 hospitals nationwide.

Michael A. Young, President & CEO of Temple University Health System, noted the Leapfrog Top Hospital Award as “one of the most competitive awards that U.S. hospitals can receive.”

“We know how important it is for our patients to feel confident in the care they receive. I congratulate every Temple University Hospital clinician and staff member for putting patients first and consistently serving our community with high-quality, safe care,” he continued.

In November 2021, Temple University Hospital earned an “A” grade from The Leapfrog Group on its fall 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade report for the Temple team’s success at delivering dependable care, preventing errors, and achieving high standards of patient safety.

This was the third year in a row Temple hospital earned the highest mark.

“Even with the continued strain of the COVID-19 pandemic, Temple University Hospital has demonstrated an extraordinary dedication to excellent health care in the Philadelphia community,” said Binder.

This is just the latest honor Temple Hospital has achieved this year.

In May 2021, Temple University Hospital was ranked the most racially inclusive hospital in Pennsylvania, and the 13th most racially inclusive hospital in the U.S., by the Lown Institute.

After that announcement, Young called the recognition “a testament to the unyielding effort of all of those at Temple  who work every day to provide the highest level of care to all.”

Coupled with its latest achievement, Temple University Hospital will be heading into 2022 as still among the most prominent hospitals in the region, both for its staff and patients, and look to add to that legacy.
